Chapter 25 of 36 · ~1 min

Finding the Right Agentic Use Cases

Not every business problem needs an agent, and many problems that look like they need one are better served by a rule, a report, or a form. Agents earn their place where the information is unstructured, where the path to the answer is not known in advance, where tools must be used in combination, and where some autonomy saves real human time.

Build yourself a filter. Ask of each candidate: Is the information unstructured? Does the task need reasoning across steps? Are tools involved? Would autonomy help, and is the cost of a mistake bearable? Four yeses is a strong candidate. Four noes is a spreadsheet.
